Editor's note
The most considered hot spring experience in Japan.
Amanemu sits inside Ise-Shima National Park, where the bay curves into a crescent of forest and the air carries salt from the Ago Bay below. 24 suites, no children under 12, and a schedule that revolves entirely around bathing and stillness.
Each suite has its own private onsen fed by the mineral springs beneath the property. The water is softer than a public bathhouse, slightly alkaline, and genuinely restorative. The staff-to-guest ratio runs just under 4:1, and it shows: every meal arrives before you ask, every futon turned down before you think to want it.
We recommend arriving mid-week to avoid the weekend crowd from Nagoya. Book the Aman Spa session for day two. The cedar pool on the hillside is unlike anything else in the country.
